We had a unique design challenge to develop a brand scheme for Shankill Shared Women’s Centre. The new purpose built shared-space is a key provider for training,  childcare and young women’s activities in North Belfast.

The brand identity was inspired by the hummingbird. We created an abstract ‘S’ motif made up of the hummingbird’s wings in motion. The colour palette was inspired by the colours of the hummingbird, we employed colour psychology: blue for trust, peace, pink for love, compassion, courage, green for healing. This resonated with the client and was employed as the accent colours in the architectural scheme. All of the design elements were cohesive, feminine and sensitive to the scheme, keeping the end user at the heart of our design scheme.

For the signage and wayfinding scheme, we created a series of exterior totems for a corner site with two entrances that directed users to the creche and the main facility. For the ‘tower’ of the building we designed a large, illuminated icon, that would cast a beacon of light in the evenings that could be seen from a far.
